The cycle has always been the same- the wolves form the world in their own image, and renew themselves by doing so. World after world this has always been so but still Paradise eludes them.
When Kiba finally fell into the cold waters of the last world he imagined a new world, complete with his friends and pack- and even humans to take part in the greater journey, for he'd learned that not all of them were evil any more than wolves were necessarily good. From the tales of that time he'd created this new place, thinking to make it a peaceful land of sense and harmony where there was no further reason to quest. It was supposed to be a land of rest, where wolves could touch the energy of the Earth at any time and draw strength from it.
Meanwhile Humans were to learn the value of the pack with Kiba's own vision of the old world's alchemy. A battery and a scientist, will and intellect- a tribute to Cher and Hubb, two humans who could have succeeded in time to avoid pain if they'd trusted themselves. The bonds of love or family, duty and the closeness of the pair- that was to dictate the power of alchemy. The more of the traits that were shared, the more powerful each would become. The stronger the packs, the more powerful the humans, and the less they would need to fight amongst each other. It was a further assurance of peace.
Unfortunately the eye of Darcia polluted the dream. The ambition and selfishness that Kiba had hoped to deaden with his changes remained, and instead of focusing on the similarities between them the humans started their civilization- and their wars not long after. Unfortunately the first generation of wolves didn't know anything but the same ways as their progenitors, and retreated unless there was no other choice. With scraps of myths and fear as their guides the humans took the same path as before, destroying each other, the wolves and themselves.
Now the nations know only war. Amestris has fallen apart, the corporations which own every vital resourse owning everything and doling it out only to those who follow their wishes. The government no longer exists after its many wars have failed and most of the former military are now members of a secret resistance that helps Alchemists and Sources hide from the corporations that would use them as further weapons. Every nation has their own level of difficulties and seems to exist only to keep these ancient wars going.
Dante of Shamballa, Inc. seeks to find the penultimate weapon against her enemies and those foolish enough to stand in her way- her former lover's youngest son. After his kidnapping as a child she used him for an experiment, hoping to find the key to the power she sought as well as the importance of the long-vanished wolves. Just when she was on the right track the child was stolen back by his angry father and returned home drastically changed. No one but she knows what was done to him and she refuses to give up looking.
The world grows colder and darker with every day, until it seems that the end is close in sight. The wolves, long in hiding, are again questing for the moonflower, desperate for an escape from a dying world. Those alchemists and sources who are inclined to notice feel something in the air as well and have begun their own research into its meaning. Old myths are uncovered in secret and all the while the people grow more destitute and sink into despair. Nothing seems to change even in these dark times.
With the world waiting, will it be saved or reborn- or simply cease to exist? That is the greatest question.
